Derek Goodwin is a vegan activist and artist who created the NOLA Veggiefest web site and wrote a column as the New Orleans Vegan Examiner. He is creator and co-host of Vegan Radio, which began as an FM radio show in Massachusetts and is now a well-loved (but sporadicly-produced) podcast. He is the founder of the Vegan Bus Project, in which a full sized school bus powered by waste vegetable oil was used to promote veganism. He is known internationally for his photography of farmed animals living in sanctuaries, and was featured in the book “Ninety-Five:Meeting America’s Farmed Animals in Stories and Photographs“. He was recently mentioned in VegNews magazine‘s “Vegan Man Issue” as one of the “vegan men we love.”

Derek is a certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher known as Pashupa, which means “protector of the animals” in Sanskrit. He taught yoga classes at Swan River Studio in New Orleans until he was hired this April by Jivamukti Yoga and moved to New York City to be the Web Editor for their soon-to-be-released web site. Derek is working with Jivamukti’s renown animal activist co-founders Sharon Gannon and David Life to manifest a web site that will connect the international yoga community to the vegan movement.

In his free time he likes to hula hoop and play the ukulele (see his youtube video Big Ole Vegan Mountains).
